What is AHK-Cu?
AHK-Cu is the copper complex of the tripeptide L-alanyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. It has been investigated in laboratory models involving human hair follicles and dermal papilla cells.
What did the human hair-follicle study report?
In an ex-vivo study of human hair follicles, AHK-Cu was associated with increased follicle elongation. In cultured dermal papilla cells, the same study reported increased cell proliferation and changes in apoptosis-related signaling. These were laboratory and ex-vivo findings, not a clinical trial of hair-loss treatment in people.
Dermal papilla and hair-cycle research
Dermal papilla cells are specialized fibroblast-like cells involved in hair-follicle development and cycling. AHK-Cu research is therefore often discussed in relation to dermal papilla biology, follicle elongation, cell proliferation and apoptosis-related pathways.
Angiogenesis and VEGF-related research
Copper-peptide research more broadly includes vascular and growth-factor signaling, including VEGF-related biology. Evidence from other copper peptides should not automatically be transferred to AHK-Cu unless the specific experiment studied AHK-Cu itself.
Collagen and skin-repair claims
AHK-Cu is sometimes grouped online with GHK-Cu and broader copper-peptide claims about collagen, skin repair and tissue remodeling. The evidence base is not interchangeable: GHK-Cu has a substantially broader tissue-remodeling literature, while direct AHK-Cu evidence is more limited and is best known for hair-follicle and dermal-papilla research.
